Samsung launches the world’s fastest and largest SSD
Samsung, the world’s leading manufacturer of consumer electronics, has recently announced the world’s fastest Solid State Drive (SSD) during the fifth annual event of Samsung Mobile Solution Forum.
The 2.5-inch multi-level cell (MLC) uses a SATA II interface and features a whopping 256 Gigabyte which makes it 2.4 times faster than a traditional HDD in spite of its ultra thin size that measures 100.3 x 69.85 mm.
With a read speed capacity that reaches up to 200 megabytes per second and 160 megabytes of write speed, the new 256 GB SSD is seen as a quantum leap that will eliminate barrier density of SSD. With this innovation, experts believe that computer is now facing second stage evolution.
The new SSD will significantly improve performance and widen storage capacity of computers. Using the most advance proprietary controller, this can also provide excellent reliability equal to SLC SSD, providing a mean time between failures (MTBF) of one million hours. Plus, power consumption can be greatly reduced since it only uses 0.9 watts in its active mode.
Another impressive feature of Samsung’s 256 GB SSD is data encryption system which prevents unauthorized access of data even after the SSD is removed from the computer. This sophisticated security feature is highly-suitable for people who demands reliable safekeeping for their data.
Presently, the Samsung is involved in development projects that aim to create high-capacity SSD with co-sponsors from top PC and server manufacturers from, Asia, Europe, and US.
The Samsung 256GB SSD is expected to be available in the market before the year ends.
